Cedar City Looking For Future Leaders

Cedar City is putting out the call for future community leaders. Applications are now being accepted for the 2023-2024 Cedar City Youth Council.

The role of a city youth council is indispensable in shaping the future of communities by championing the rights and aspirations of young people. These councils serve as dynamic platforms where the voices of the youth are not only heard but also translated into tangible actions and policies.

City youth councils are instrumental in fostering civic engagement among young people. Through various initiatives, they educate the youth about their rights, responsibilities, and the democratic process. This education empowers them to actively participate in community affairs, thereby strengthening the democratic fabric of society. Moreover, youth council members get an intimate look at how local government works and impacts the community.

Cedar City is looking for applications from students who have passion about government, service, leadership and making an impact on the community. The city is seeking applications from 11^th grade students at Canyon View High School, Cedar High School or from home school programs.

Past participants in the youth council have said serving on the council has given them opportunity to learn about local government, meet elected officials, learn about collaboration and has been an enhancement for college applications.
