Independence Day will soon be here, and we all look forward to the fun of the day. Bar B Cue, maybe a day at the lake or a picnic with family and friends.

We all enjoy a day together and a day to unwind, and we look forward to the celebrations to commemorate the day our country declared independence. And of course, part of that celebration includes fireworks.

Fireworks add sparkle to our celebrations, but safety should always come first. In Cedar City, Utah, residents are encouraged to enjoy a professional fireworks display rather than lighting personal fireworks this 4th of July. Understanding local regulations is crucial: if a firework is sold in Utah, it's typically legal to use, but anything not purchasable locally is off-limits statewide.

During periods of high wildfire risk, like those affecting the Wildland Urban Interface areas in Cedar City and unincorporated parts of Iron County, all firework use is prohibited. Remember, no fireworks are allowed on US Forest Service, BLM, or National Park lands.

For a safe and spectacular experience, the Cedar City Fire Department hosts a fireworks show at the Cedar City Airport after dark, around 10PM. Although personal fireworks are legal in some Cedar City areas, the Fire Department strongly advises against their use due to safety concerns and potential liabilities.

Designated locations for fireworks discharge include Cedar High School, Bicentennial Softball Complex, Iron Springs Elementary, Canyon View High School, and the Aquatic Center. These spots are equipped with marked dumpsters for safe disposal of used fireworks.

Fireworks may be discharged between 11AM. and 11PM, except during specified extended hours on July 4th and other designated dates. Sales of Class "C" fireworks are permitted from June 24th to July 25th, with additional sales dates near December 31st and Chinese New Year's Eve.

To ensure a safe celebration, follow these guidelines from the National Council on Fireworks Safety: use fireworks outdoors only, obey local laws, have water nearby for emergencies, and never alter or relight malfunctioning fireworks. Spectators should keep a safe distance, and alcohol and fireworks should never mix.

Let’s celebrate responsibly and enjoy a festive and safe Independence Day in Cedar City!
