Investigation Of Beaten Utah Teen Expands: KSUB News Summary
Police say the investigation into a teenaged boy's beating in early February is widening. A 15-year-old boy was brought to St. Mark's Hospital with multiple injuries on February 5th. He had gray spray paint on his body and clothing. Police say Christian Thomas Hekking of West Valley City and 18-year-old Mael Metzli Keith of Salt Lake City, were charged last Thursday in 3rd District Court with felony first-degree aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault resulting in serious injury, a second-degree felony. If convicted, there are gang enhancement penalties that may be imposed. Keith is also charged with obstruction of justice, a class A misdemeanor. Police obtained videos from Keith's social media accounts that allegedly show the beating.
Missing Tooele Woman Found Dead
A missing 43-year-old Tooele woman is dead. Police say a body believed to be Karen Crawford was found in the city late Tuesday. Foul play is not suspected in her death. Police say a vehicle belonging to the missing mother of two was found in city limits at about 10 p.m. Crawford was last seen leaving work early on February 15th. She is known to have been at the Fashion Place Mall a short time later. Family members had reached out to police and the public for help in locating the missing woman.
Governor In Washington For Annual Meeting
Utah Governor Spencer Cox is in Washington, D.C., for the annual winter meeting of the National Governors Association. The governor who is chairman this year of the association has several stops on his Wednesday agenda. He will give talks at George Washington University and the National Cathedral. He is also expected to speak about bipartisanship in America at the Economic Club of Washington.
Two Vehicle Collision In Weber County Results In One Death
A woman is dead and two others are injured following a two-vehicle collision in Weber County late Tuesday. Deputies say that at about 9 p.m. a Chevrolet Blazer traveling south on Midland Drive collided with a Tesla that was preparing to turn left onto 4000 South. A woman in the Tesla's passenger seat received treatment for injuries but died at the scene. The Tesla driver and an infant were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries and are in good condition. The driver of the Blazer and three passengers stayed to cooperate with the investigation. Deputies did not release the woman's name pending family notification. The investigation is ongoing.
