A Sea of Stars and Stripes Returns to Mesquite

If you've ever wondered what patriotism looks like in living color, picture 1,000 American flags standing at attention beneath the desert sky.

This November, Mesquite's beloved 1000 Flags Over Mesquite celebration marks its 20th anniversary with a special addition that's sure to have eyes pointed skyward: a United States Air Force flyover.

A Red, White and Blue Milestone

The week-long tribute will fill the west field of the Mesquite Recreation Center from Nov. 8-15, transforming it into a breathtaking field of American flags. This year's event is especially meaningful as organizers celebrate both the 20th anniversary of 1000 Flags Over Mesquite and America's 250th birthday commemoration.

The tradition, long cherished by the community, is now hosted by the Virgin Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

More Than Just Flags

Each flag represents a story of service, sacrifice, and dedication to the nation. Visitors are encouraged to walk among the displays, read dedication ribbons, and reflect on the veterans and active-duty service members honored throughout the field. Sponsorship opportunities allow families to dedicate flags in honor or memory of loved ones.

Look Up! Here Comes the Flyover

As if 1,000 flags weren't impressive enough, a U.S. Air Force flyover is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 15, adding a high-flying finale to the celebration.

The event remains free and open to the public, proving once again that in Mesquite, honoring America's heroes isn't just a ceremony. It's a community tradition with enough stars, stripes, and hometown pride to make Old Glory wave just a little taller.

Magic Valley 911 Memorial - Flag Walk 2023

Several hundred people gathered at the Twin Falls Visitors Center on September 10, 2023 to watch the American Flag being carried by a group of 911 Memorial committee members and volunteers, in memory of the fallen. As impressive as the flag is, it's small relative to the flag that will fly across the Snake River Canyon on September 11.
