The state may soon require that children are potty trained before they are allowed to start kindergarten.

Some Utah school districts say the number of students coming to school with no toilet training in that age group is growing. Republican state Representative Douglas Welton says the law would benefit teachers who are now placed in the uncomfortable position of helping a student or leaving them in "filth and squalor." The bill takes into consideration children with health challenges or other documented conditions that would require exemption from the rule.
