Bill Streamlining Removal Of Books From Libraries Advances In Utah Legislature
Lawmakers are seeking to streamline the removal of certain kinds of books from the state's public school library shelves. The House Education Committee on Tuesday voted ten to two recommending approval of HB29.
This bill clarifies and updates how officials are to determine what books meet the state standard for indecent or pornographic content. In 2022, Utah lawmakers passed HB374, a bill governing sensitive materials affecting school libraries. Sponsors say the key change in this new legislation would require the removal of material when officials in three school districts say it violates the state code for sensitive materials

Armed Man Shot By Bluffdale Police
A 44-year-old armed man is dead after he was shot by police today in Bluffdale. Firefighters and police responded to a medical call at a location on South Castle Drive at about 8:30 a.m. where they found a man locked in his room.
Police say when the man was approached by emergency medical personnel he confronted them with a gun and police shot the man. He was taken to a Riverton hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The critical incident protocol team is investigating the police shooting. Police have not released the man's name.
Hogle Zoo Staff Mourn Loss Of Snow Leopard
Salt Lake City's Hogle Zoo is mourning the recent death of a beloved snow leopard. Zoo officials confirmed on social media that its snow leopard, 15-year-old Milenka, had died of natural causes The zoo-going community remembers Milenka for her natural cross-eyed expression and unique vocalizations which made her a visitor favorite.
