Man Sentenced For Killing Landlord

(St. George, UT) -- A St. George man is heading to prison for killing his landlord. Joel Flores was sentenced last week to at least 20 years in prison after being found guilty of murdering Richard Harper nearly two years ago. Two other people were inside of the home where shots were fired but were uninjured. Flores appealed the sentencing on Friday and will have a different attorney for that process.

Father Charged With Murder Of Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office Deputy, Has Fled U.S.

(Tooele, UT) -- The father of 25-year-old Salt Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Marbella Martinez has been charged with her murder. She was found dead in her Tooele home in early August, and authorities say 54-year-old Hector Martinez-Ayala strangled her to death. Investigators describe his relationship with his daughter as obsessive and controlling. Martinez-Ayala reportedly admitted to killing his daughter in a text message to a family member, and he has since fled the country. His current whereabouts are unknown.

2-Year-Old Dies After Being Found Unresponsive In Logan Canal

(Logan, UT) -- An investigation is ongoing after a two-year-old died in Logan last Friday evening. Authorities received a report of a child missing from a local home, and crews found the child unresponsive in a nearby canal. Paramedics began life-saving measures and the two-year-old was rushed to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. Police don't suspect foul play, but say they take any "unattended death" seriously, and are continuing to investigate.

LDS President Russell M. Nelson Turns 100

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- LDS Church President Russell M. Nelson celebrated his 100th birthday yesterday. This makes him the first LDS Church president to reach 100-years-old. Nelson asked people to commemorate his birthday by reaching out to someone in need. Utah Governor Spencer Cox proclaimed yesterday as President Russell M. Nelson Day in honor of the birthday milestone.
