A DNA match led to the identification of Jose Luis Pina-Cruz and Frank Benavidez as the suspects who forced their way into a woman's car at gunpoint, drove her to a field and then raped her before throwing her out of the vehicle. Both men were convicted of charges including aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping and robbery.
Man Arrested For Pepper Spraying Protestors
(Salt Lake City, UT) - A man has been arrested for pepper spraying protestors in downtown Salt Lake City. Police say 38-year-old Michael Christensen began fighting with people demonstrating against President Donald Trump on Monday as part of the nationwide 50501 Movement. He reportedly confronted someone dressed as Captain America then punched a person in the side of the head before spraying four victims. Christensen is facing numerous charges.
Festival Of Fire Investigation Complete
(Provo,UT) - The investigation into a fireworks mishap in Provo is now complete. Eighteen people were hurt when the fireworks were launched into the crowd during a Festival of Fire event last year at LaVell Edwards Stadium on the BYU campus. The results of the seven-month inquiry are being released by Provo Fire and Rescue officials. They're expected to answer questions about their findings during a news conference.
Bill To Protect Campus Religious Clubs Advances
(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A bill aimed at protecting clubs on public university campuses is advancing through the State House. The measure sponsored by Republican Representative Karianne Lisonbee would require that belief-based groups be treated the same as other campus organizations. That would include religious, political and ideological clubs. The proposal passed through a House Committee yesterday.
