The Cedar City Police Department welcomed two new officers to the force Wednesday night. According to the department's Facebook page, Office Daniel Bowler and Officer Kyle Barrett were sworn in during ceremonies held during the Cedar City Council meeting at city hall. Both officers were “pinned” by their wives. After two weeks of in house orientation and training, the two new officers will be out patrolling the streets.

In other news, the Cedar City Police Department gratefully acknowledged and accepted a “generous donation” to the department from the Cedar City Rotary Club. The local Rotarian's donated $3,672.80 to the police department, with the money to be used to acquire night vision scopes. Night vision can be a critical tool for the police during night and low light situations, helping in finding lost children and locating suspects along with other applications. The use of these scopes has proven to increase officer confidence and reduce anxiety during special operations.
