(St. George, UT) -- Congressman Chris Stewart's former aide, Celeste Maloy, has won the Republican nomination in the race to take his place in the U.S. House after he resigns next week. Maloy took more than 38-percent of the vote in the sprawling district that includes Washington and Iron counties. Former state lawmaker Becky Edwards conceded just before 6 p.m. Wednesday when returns showed she would not be able to close the three-percentage gap separating her and Maloy. Businessman Bruce Hough ran third with just over 26-percent. Maloy will be favored over Democratic state lawmaker in the November 21st general election.

(St. George, UT) -- Three St. George city council members and three challengers are moving on from the primary to the November 21st general election. Incumbents Dannielle Larkin, Jimmie Hughes, and Gregg McArthur, along with challengers Steve Kemp, Paula Smith, and Brad Bennett were the top vote-getters among the 14 candidates on the ballot Tuesday. The six candidates will meet in a debate on the Utah Tech University campus on November 1st.

(Enoch, UT) -- Two people were killed in a crash on State Route 130 north of Enoch earlier this week. The Utah Highway Patrol says it happened late Tuesday night when a van, a pickup, and a farm tractor towing a trailer collided about four miles north of the roundabout at Midvalley Road. The Highway Patrol said the van was traveling north when it drifted over the center-line, hit the trailer then slammed into the pickup and rolled over. Two people in the van died at the scene and the driver of the pickup had minor injuries. State Route 130 was closed for several hours from late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

(St. George, UT) -- A Silver Alert is out for a missing St. George man. Police say 61-year-old Matthew John Ruddy walked away from St. George Regional Hospital Wednesday morning, against the advice of doctors and staff. He said he was going to collect his personal property from the Switchpoint Community Resource Facility at 948 North 1300 West and hasn't been seen since. Ruddy is six feet two inches tall, weighs 160 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes. He might also have a short gray beard.

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Utahns have more debt than any other group of Americans. New rankings by fintech PR firm Cultural Currents Institute ranks Utah the most debt-ridden state in the nation. A study by the group found the average Utah household owes 138-percent of the state's average annual salary of 57-thousand-360 dollars. Researchers based the rankings on debts including auto loans, mortgages, credit cards, and student loans. Arkansas, Hawaii, Alabama, and Colorado round out the top five most-indebted states. Idaho is number-six, followed by Nevada, California, and Maryland.
