(Vernal, UT) -- Criminal charges were filed today in connection with the death of a 21-year-old Army soldier from Vernal more than half a century after his brutal murder. Authorities say 74-year-old Darrel Eugene Choate was charged in 8th District Court with murder, a first-degree felony. Investigators allege that on November 26th, 1972, Gregory Dahl Nickell was shot multiple times and his car was set on fire while his body was still inside. In 2022, on the 50th anniversary of Nickell's death, the Uintah County Sheriff's Office say it had narrowed the case to two suspects, including Choate, using DNA testing. The other suspect was Daniel Arthur Bell who died at age 88 in 2019.
Duchesne County Deputies Search For Escaped Jail Inmate
(Duchesne, UT) -- Authorities are searching for a 32-year-old Duchesne County jail inmate who got away while he was being taken to a rehabilitation facility. Duchesne County Sheriff Travis Tucker says Gattlyn Nicholes escaped before he could be admitted into the facility on October 1st and has been on the run since that time. He is a person of interest in a recent theft of a motorhome. The vehicle was taken from the Pinion Ridge area but was later found on fire on Highway 35. Nicholes was first arrested in late July and is charged with multiple thefts.
Woman Is Named Who Died In Tuesday Head-On Collision
(Scofield, UT) -- State officials are confirming the identity of a 54-year-old woman who died in a head-on collision involving a semi truck north of the Scofield Reservoir in Utah County on Tuesday. The Utah Department of Transportation officials says Scarleth Ramnarine of West Jordan was a passenger in a pickup truck that was traveling westbound on SR-96 just after 1 p.m. The pickup collided with the eastbound semi. Ramnarine was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the semi-truck driver was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle. Both directions of SR-96 were closed for several hours for the cleanup and investigation. Authorities say weather conditions are a likely factor in the collision.
Man Is Facing Sexual Assault Charges
(St. George, UT) -- A man is in custody in connection with a sexual assault that was reported at Utah Tech University. Campus police say they responded to a report of an assault at a school building late yesterday. Officers secured the building, issued a campus safety alert and were able to identify a man as a person of interest. The St. George Police Department assisted in locating the man and taking him into custody. Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to contact the Utah Tech Police Department.

Some say they are concerned due to Davidson's discussion of how he tracks politicians' ballots. The controversy began when the clerk reportedly asked voters to prioritize drop boxes and in-person voting over mail-in ballots. He also kept track of how public officials vote and provided names.
