Richins Hearing Delayed: KSUB News Summary

A Utah judge is delaying today's preliminary hearing for a woman accused of giving her husband a lethal dose of fentanyl in a Moscow Mule cocktail. The judge says he wants to see if prosecutors have enough evidence to proceed to trial against Kouri Richins. She has yet to enter a plea in response to charges that include first-degree aggravated murder and criminal homicide. Her next court appearance is June 18th and it may take three days. Richins was arrested a year ago after her husband and father of three Eric Richins died suspiciously in March 2022. After his death, Richins wrote a children's book about grief which was highly publicized.

Arrests Up In Salt Lake City High Crime Area

Salt Lake City police say there's been a 54-percent increase in arrests to combat criminal activity at the Jordan River Trail and North Temple. With its heightened effort, police have made in excess of 150 arrests this year. From last October through May 1st, officers have logged more than three-thousand hours policing this area to bring down incidents. Police say they are working with other local agencies to make the trail safer for outdoor enthusiasts.

Trump-Biden Will Debate, But Will They Skip Salt Lake City?

President Joe Biden and his Republican opponent appear to be bypassing the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates today. That is not good news for the University of Utah which is set to host the third official CPD presidential debate on October 9th. Both Biden and former President Donald Trump exchanged barbs on social media as they looked to agree to a debate in late June. The CPD announced its formal debate schedule back in November 2023. At that time, the first presidential debate was set for Texas State University on September 16th, with Virginia State University hosting the second installment, to be followed by the University of Utah.

Motorcyclist Killed In Kaysville Crash

Kaysville police are investigating a two-vehicle accident late Tuesday that sent an 18-year-old motorcyclist to the hospital with a broken leg and other non-life threatening injuries. At about 3:39 p.m., police were called to Crestwood Road where a motorcycle had collided with the rear-end of an SUV that was making a left turn, yielding to oncoming traffic. Police say the biker was airlifted to a local trauma center. Police did not release the names of either driver.
