U.S. Supreme Court Rejects Utah's Challenge to Federal Land Control

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected Utah's challenge to federal control over public lands, blocking the state's effort to gain ownership of 18-point-5 million acres of property currently owned by the Bureau of Land Management. Utah argued that federal oversight harmed the state's sovereignty and sought to have these lands disposed of by the federal government. Environmental groups, such as the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, hailed the decision as a victory for public land protection.

Body Found Near Elephant Arch Trailhead

(Washington City, UT) -- Authorities are investigating after a body was found in southern Utah. Washington City police say the discovery was made last week near the Elephant Arch trailhead, just north of Washington Parkway. Investigators don't believe foul play is involved in the case but are still looking into the circumstances surrounding the person's death. The medical examiner will also determine the cause of how the person died.

 

Montreal Canadiens Hockey Player Hit By Car In SLC

(Salt Lake City, UH) -- A Montreal Canadiens hockey player has been sidelined for several weeks after getting hit by a car in Salt Lake City. The team announced yesterday morning that Emil Heineman suffered an upper-body injury and will be out for three to four weeks. Salt Lake City police say the crash happened near 200 East and 500 South. The Montréal Canadiens played the Utah Hockey Club at the Delta Center last night.
