Small Fire Burning In Zion National Park: KSUB News Summary
Wildland firefighters have been deployed to an ~3-5 acres fire in Hop Valley, Wednesday, July 24, 2024. At approximately 1500 a local resident reported a fire in Hop Valley, Zion National Park. The Hop Valley Trail is closed. Firefighters from National Park Service and partners are actively addressing the flames. The Kolob Terrace road is currently open and not effected by the fire.
Record Number Of Fentanyl Pills Seized In Utah
DEA officials say a record number of fentanyl pills were seized in Utah in 2023. U.S. Attorney for Utah Trina Higgins says fentanyl is the deadliest drug threat in the United States. Local, state and federal law enforcement officials including Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes, Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera and Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown gathered in the city today to discuss the increase in pills that are trafficked into and through Utah. More than 660-thousand pills containing fentanyl were seized in Utah last year. Officers have confiscated more than 770-thousand pills in the first six months of this year. Tests conducted in DEA labs show that seven out of every ten pills sold in the state contains a deadly dose of the drug. DEA says drug overdose is now the leading cause of death for Americans between the ages of 18 and 45, with about 70-percent of those fatalities linked to fentanyl poisoning.
Two Injured In Salt Lake City Fire
Firefighters say fire reported just after midnight caused damage to a home on Van Buren Avenue. Upon arrival, crews had to get one man out of the structure who they say had sustained minor physical injuries. A second man had left the house before firefighters got on the scene. Both men were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Red Cross is assisting both men in finding a place to stay. The extent of the damage to the property is not yet known. Firefighters say they were kept busy yesterday as they responded to other fires across the city during the Pioneer Day celebrations.
Small Plane Crash In Roy Under Investigation
An investigation is ongoing after a small plane crashed into the front yard of a house located northwest of Roy High School just before 4 p.m. yesterday. The home is about a mile away from the runway at Ogden Hinckley Airport in Ogden. Witnesses say the pilot and passenger, a man and a woman, were seen climbing out of the wrecked aircraft. Police say both were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police did not release their conditions or their names. No injuries were reported on the ground. Security footage from the home shows the plane sliding into the yard and coming to a stop. The FAA and NTSB are investigating.
