A teenager is in the University of Utah Burn Center after his vehicle hit a tree just after midnight Thursday. Lone Peak police say an off-duty officer was headed home when he observed a speeding vehicle on Canal Boulevard Highland. He attempted to stop the driver of the vehicle, later identified as a 17-year-old male. The teenager ignored the officer and went through a red light, veering off the road into a tree in Windsor Meadows Park. Lone Peak and American Fork police worked quickly to free the driver as his vehicle burst into flames. He was transported to the Salt Lake City-based burn center where he is listed in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing.
