A wrong way driver is being blamed for an accident Sunday that claimed two lives. According to a press release from the Utah Department of Public Safety, reports began coming in to dispatch centers at just before 6:30 in the evening of a driver going northbound in the southbound lanes of I-15 near mile marker 102. As Utah Highway Patrol Troopers from the Beaver area began responding to attempt to intercept the vehicle, they were notified of a head on collision near mile marker 109 on southbound lanes of the interstate. A male driver in a tan Ford Escape was traveling in the wrong direction in that area. At the same time, a female driver in a white Ford Focus was traveling southbound. The driver of the Escape, driving in the wrong direction, crashed head on in to the Focus. Both drivers were killed on impact. The wrong way driver is suspected to have been driving while impaired. The investigation is ongoing.
