A Utah Highway Patrol trooper is in serious condition after a fall from an I-80 overpass bridge Tuesday. The trooper was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. The accident occurred as he was deploying spikes to assist city police trying to stop a suspect traveling near 7200 West on I-80. The highway was closed southbound for the investigation. Salt Lake City police at about 10 a.m. attempted to stop the driver of an SUV near 900 West and North Temple Street. The driver left the scene but later was involved with a confrontation with police hitting a patrol vehicle causing minor damage. The driver of the SUV was located later at a hotel and taken into custody. Police did not say if charges would be filed.

Judkins says the measure mirrors the state's stiffer penalties for someone caught with a firearm while on probation for drug possession. Her proposal bumps up potential prison time for those with a felony conviction or who are restricted by a protective order involving an intimate partner or child.

National Guard Pilots Hurt In Utah Helicopter Crash

Two Utah National Guard pilots are hospitalized after their AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopter crashed during a routine training mission Monday. A pilot from the 419th Fighter Wing is in the hospital in stable condition. The other pilot was treated and released. National Guard officials say the helicopter crashed at the South Valley Regional Airport in West Jordan. The aircraft was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 211th Aviation Regiment. National Guard officials say the names of the pilots will not be released.

Provo Food Bank Has Less Than One Month Of Food Available

Utah's second-largest food bank has less than one month left of food. Community Action Services and Food Bank says it's seen a recent 65-percent increase in demand. The pantry works to feed hundreds of families at six locations in Utah, Wasatch and Summit counties. On Monday, those coming to the pantry found rows and rows of empty shelves. In recent weeks, 14-thousand people have reached out to the food bank for support. Officials say there is an urgent need for donations.
