Utah residents are starting the week with the potential for flash floods. Southern Utah is facing elevated flash flood risks while scattered microbursts threaten northern and central parts of the state. The National Weather Service warns that Bryce Canyon and Zion national parks, have a "probable" flash flood potential for today and tomorrow. The weather service advised people to stay clear of slot canyons, dry washes and small streams.

Firefighter's Efforts Save West Jordan Home

Fire crews in West Jordan were able to knock down a home fire that was likely sparked by downed power lines. The blaze broke out around 2:30 a.m. West Jordan, Sandy and the Unified Fire Authority all responded to the residence where no one was at home. The fire which was mostly in the attic was extinguished within about 15 minutes. No firefighters were injured. Rocky Mountain Power was on the scene for repairs and power was restored at about 6 a.m.

Man Arrested In Fatal Hit And Run

A man is charged in connection with a hit and run accident in Millcreek that took the life of 20-year-old Lindsey Vanorman. Jonathan B Lyman was taken into custody on August 1st. Police say he was the driver of a white truck that on July 27th hit Vanorman who was on the road to assist an injured animal. The truck driver fled the scene. First responders took Vanorman to the hospital where she later died. Lyman is charged with third-degree felony leaving the scene of an accident involving death, three counts of third-degree felony obstructing justice and other charges.

Officials Name Willard Bay Drowning Victim

Officials say 38-year-old Andre DeBose of Layton is the man who drowned in Willard Bay this past Saturday. The Department of Natural Resources says DeBose was swimming when a storm approached Eagle Beach. He went in to help his son who was struggling while he was trying save another swimmer. DeBose went under and did not resurface. His body was recovered by search crews around 11:15 p.m. His son was medically evaluated and cleared on the scene. It is the second drowning at the site in the past week.
