The Utah Shakespeare Festival has announced the 2023 production of Shakespeare in the Schools. In this annual touring production, a team of ten members will travel across the western region of the country bringing quality theater to students in rural and urban school settings. The tour for 2023 will be preforming a shortened version of the play Othello. The tour “brings quality Shakespeare performances and workshops to schools and communities through out the west,” according to a press release. The tour has been operating for 29 years. The 75 minute performance will allow students to experience quality theater. The performance will also include a 15 minute "talkback" following the show which will allow students to interact with company members. The acting company also teaches three performance based workshops covering text and voice, stage movement and improvisation. This is the first time Othello has been presented by the Shakespeare in the Schools touring company. Cordell Cole will lead this tour as the company director. The company will also consist of a technical director, tour manager, stage manager and seven actors. The tour is scheduled to begin on January 30th and is set to conclude on April 2nd of 2023.
