(Salt Lake City, UT) -- It cost the Utah Department of Corrections close to 261-thousand dollars to execute Taberon Dave Honie by lethal injection on August 8th. The money was mostly for medical services and supplies for the execution at the state correctional facility in Salt Lake City. The major cost released yesterday was connected to the purchase of pentobarbital at an estimated 200-thousand dollars. Other medical supply expenses included IV lines, an EKG monitor and the execution team itself. Honie was executed for the 1998 murder of Claudia Marie Been in Cedar City, who was his ex-girlfriend's mother, and committed the crime in front of her grandchildren.
Mother, Children Found Safe
(St. George, UT) -- A mother and her three children are safe after being found in Nevada. Britney Deal and the three kids were located yesterday by the Nevada Highway Patrol and they were unharmed. St. George Police also noted suspect David Remley was taken into custody. A missing person advisory was sent out Monday after Remley picked up the kids from daycare in Britney's car, but they weren't sure if she was in the car. It is unclear what charges Remley may be facing as a result of the incident.
More Information Released On Roy Officer-Involved Shooting
(Roy, UT) -- Roy police have released more information on Saturday evening's officer-involved shooting. Police say the 46-year-old suspect was at the center of an investigation by Internet Crimes Against Children, and he was wanted for allegedly enticing a minor online. Investigators say he was pulled over and initially cooperated with officers, but then fled the scene. Police later located him in a neighborhood, where he reportedly pulled out a gun, resulting in a shootout that lasted several minutes and ended once the suspect was wounded. He remains hospitalized, and his identity hasn't been released.
Deputies Identify Lightning Strike Victim At Bear River
(Bear River, UT) -- Deputies have identified the Ogden man who died after lightning struck his boat during a fishing trip on Bear River early Sunday. Three men went into the water after the strike hit on or near their boat just after midnight. The Box Elder County Sheriff's Office says 24-year-old Skyler Granath was pronounced dead at the scene after his body was recovered around 5 a.m. The other two made it to shore and were treated at a local hospital with injuries consistent with lightning exit wounds. Both are expected to recover.
