Power Outages Hit Beaver, Iron Counties
Rocky Mountain Power clients in southern Utah experienced outages in Beaver and Iron Counties, Tuesday.
According to Rocky Mountain Power, the initial interruption was caused when a wild fire broke out east of Beaver. The Sheep Rock Fire started around 345pm and burned over 75 acres by late Tuesday, when fire fighters were able to halt its progress.
Roughly 1500 customers were impacted in Beaver County due to what the power company called an “emergency de-energization.”
The interruptions were not limited to Beaver County, however. Over 19,000 customers in Iron County found themselves also without power. The Beaver County wild fire was so close to RMP equipment that the power provider chose to shut down equipment as a precaution to avoid serious damage to its infrastructure.
Power to Iron County customers was restored, in most cases within a half-hour. Power was restored to most customers in Beaver County by 7pm.
