Romney Touts Funding For New Cedar City Interchange: KSUB News Summary
U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) applauded an announcement from the Department of Transportation that more than $70 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, negotiated by Romney and his colleagues, would be awarded to the Utah Department of Transportation for the I-15 South Iron County Freight, Mobility, and Safety Project. This project will add a northbound climbing lane on I-15 and replace an interchange in Cedar City, which will benefit the public by expediting and combining the environmental processes, synchronizing the construction schedules, and reducing mobilization costs.
St. George Temple Rededicated
President Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles rededicated the renovated house of the Lord in his native St. George, Utah, on Sunday, December 10, 2023. The pioneer-era temple closed for extensive renovation in November 2019. This was the second major renovation of this historic structure, which was originally announced by Brigham Young in 1871. Workers replaced the temple’s mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems and strengthened its structural integrity. This renovation also eliminated design inconsistencies in architectural style that came about in previous renovations. The temple site includes new plazas that improve access to temple entrances and provide gathering spaces for families and friends.
New K9 Assigned To Salt Lake ATF Field Office
The ATF's Salt Lake City Field Office is welcoming its newest member. Explosives detection canine Jaisa has joined the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms' with her handler, Special Agent Daniel Forster. The three-year-old Lab is trained to sniff out explosives, guns, shell casings, and more. She will be based in Utah, but she could also be called to help in Colorado, Montana, or Wyoming at a moment's notice. Special Agent Forster said they were on security detail for President Biden a few months ago and they're slated to go to the Super Bowl in Las Vegas this February.
Church Names New Apostle
Elder Patrick Kearon is the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called on Thursday, December 7, 2023, and ordained later that day by President Russell M. Nelson and the other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Elder Kearon, who has served as the senior president of the Presidency of the Seventy since August 2020, fills the vacancy created by the death of President M. Russell Ballard, who passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023. The British and Irish national has been a General Authority Seventy since April 3, 2010.
