Newly released documents show what led to the death of a Santaquin police officer at the hands of a 42-year-old semi-truck driver a week ago. Police say Michael Aaron Jayne was allegedly holding a woman against her will at the time Sgt. Billy Dean Hooser and other officers attempted a traffic stop of the truck on May 5th. Jayne was reportedly driving northbound on I-15 just before 6 a.m. when he approached the Santaquin Main Street exit. After attempts by police to reason with Jayne failed, the truck driver made a u-turn and accelerated into Hooser and his vehicle, hitting the officer who died at the scene. The funeral service for Hooser was today at the Valley University's UCCU Event Center. He will be laid to rest at the Santaquin City Cemetery.
