Woman Killed In Sanpete County Crash
Tuesday night at just after 10:30, a black Subaru Outback was traveling south on Mountainville Highway in Sanpete County at a high rate of speed. The Outback driver was unable to negotiate a curve in the road near Gravel Pit Rd due to their high speed. This location is about 3 miles north of Mount Pleasant, UT. The Outback crossed over the oncoming lane, went off the roadway, and impacted a concrete loading dock for a building off the side of the road. The 54-year-old female driver and only occupant of the vehicle was killed on impact.
Man Returned To St. George To Face Rape Charges
A man accused of rape is back in Washington County to face those charges. The felony counts of rape and forcible sodomy were filed against David Curtis in district court in St. George yesterday. Investigators found the 54-year-old had sexually abused a child younger than ten before he was arrested last month while working as a counselor at a middle school in Mesquite. He was booked into a Las Vegas jail before being transported to the Purgatory Correctional Facility. Detectives believe there are multiple victims and he is being held without bail for that reason.
Human Remains Discovered In Rich County
Authorities in Rich County say the body of an unidentified person was found in Garden City on Tuesday. The Rich County Sheriff's Office says the human remains were found around noon. The Utah State Bureau of Investigation was notified. This is the second set of remains found recently in Utah. Skeletal remains were found in a northern Utah bird refuge early last Saturday. Police say that discovery was made in the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge on the northwest side of Willard Bay. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Box Elder County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and confirmed that the skeletal remains were human. Investigations are ongoing in each incident.
Kidnapping, Torture Charges Leveled On Two Men
Two men are accused of kidnapping, assaulting, and torturing a Sandy man. Police say Justin McCrory and Malachi Bobo abducted the victim from his apartment, tied him up, tortured him with cigarettes and lighters, stabbed him, and beat him until they believed he was dead. It's not clear whether the suspects knew the victim or what their relationship may have been. McCrory and Bobo face multiple charges, including aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
